On Friday the West Central catcher chipped a front tooth when she hit her facemask sliding head-first into second base in the first inning, but she stayed in the game. In the third inning, she took a hard fall after colliding with the first baseman on a single. She stayed in the game. Later, she tagged out a runner on a close play at home plate; then threw a runner out at home after chasing down a wild pitch.

A year later, schools still grappling with remote learning FacebookTwitterEmail Jacksonville School District 117 Superintendent Steve Ptacek gives a presentation in August on changes to the Illinois Department of Health’s guidelines and how those changes would allow a return to in-person learning. Journal-Courier More than a year after the pandemic shuttered Illinois schools, the vast majority of students have yet to return completely to the classroom and more than 73,000 still are learning entirely remotely.  In the 154 schools across west-central Illinois, 19,644 of the 51,967 students had returned to in-person learning by the end of April, according to the Illinois State Board of Education. Nearly 165% as many 32,323 students in the region were being educated through a blended system, which includes both in-person and remote learning. 

North Greene To Add Cross Country, Possible Co-Op with Carrollton

By Benjamin Cox on April 30, 2021 at 12:12pm North Greene High School is expected to create a high school sport and co-op with another Greene County School. North Greene School District has had a junior high cross country squad for the last few years, but the sport has never existed at the high school level. The board will need to officially create the sport at their next official meeting in May. The board had come to a general consensus at their April 21 st meeting on making the sport. The Greene Prairie Press reports that North Greene Superintendent Mark Scott says that an agreement with the North Greene Teacher’s Union also needs to be made over the coach of the sport. Currently, Track Coach and High School Girls P.E. Teacher Sydney Clanton would be in charge of the sport. Title IX would not come into question because cross-country would be considered a co-ed sport.
